For over 46 years King’s Home (formerly King's Ranch and Hannah Home) has been home to hundreds of youth, women & kids seeking refuge, hope, and help from domestic violence, neglect, abandonment, homelessness, and other difficult and impoverished conditions and circumstances.
In 2012, King's Home launched King's Stables as the Equine Therapy Program for the residents of King's Home Youth Program. Over the years the program has expanded to provide services for the residents of King's Home Women & Children's Program along with other local nonprofits and community groups.
In 2019, King's Home achieved accreditation through the New York-based Council of Accreditation (COA)!
ABOUT KING'S STABLES
King’s Stables of King's Home is a fully operational farm with an equine therapy program offering hope and healing through bonding with horses.
The goal of equine therapy is to help King’s Home residents and other participants develop needed skills and character traits, such as accountability, responsibility, self-confidence, problem-solving skills, and self-control. Horses naturally break down barriers and provide experiences where individuals learn a great deal about their own strengths and weaknesses. Through learning real horsemanship skills, residents are able to walk away with life lessons that stretch far beyond their time at King’s Stables.
Co-Manager & Instructor
I was born and raised in northern Kentucky and, being from the horse capital of the world, I naturally grew up with a passion for horses. My family purchased our first horses in 2007 and I took riding lessons for several years. I recently moved these very horses to my home in Childersburg. After graduating high school, I entered college at Eastern Kentucky University and pursued a degree in American Sign Language and English Interpretation. For my senior internship, I traveled to Talladega, AL and interned for five months with the Regional Center. During that time here, I volunteered at MGH Special Equestrians and fell in love with the therapeutic riding programs. After graduating, I was offered a job at MGH as their Student Worker Program Coordinator and Instructor Assistant. I promptly moved to Alabama and began my career as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor and also obtained my PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Registered Instructor Certification. This career allowed me to combine the skills I acquired in college with my lifelong passion for horses. When I was offered this position at King’s Ranch, I was so excited to be able to build my experience and branch out into a different field of therapeutic horsemanship. Indeed, I am truly blessed to have this opportunity and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
Co-Manager & Instructor
I have always had a passion and love for horses and kids. Throughout my life, I have strived to help others. In 2015, God opened up my first big opportunity to serve others with horses. For four and a half years, I had the privilege to work with kids from the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. During my time employed there, I achieved an Intermediate Level SCPI (Sign Language Proficiency Interview). In June of 2017, I received my PATH Certified Riding Instructor Certificate. Additionally, I am on the board for the Alabama Hunter Jumper Association (AHJA) and have competed in Hunter Jumpers for many years. In June 2020, God provided me with another amazing opportunity to work at King’s Stables. I am so excited to serve our incredible youth at King’s Home and be involved in all of the other wonderful programs we offer.
